Offering You A Fully Guided Experience

The Pointing Out Way refers to a style of teaching meditation that puts the teacher and student in a direct relationship. You will be offered instructional support during every session throughout the week. Dr. John Churchill will guide you step-by-step through common experiences and obstacles in meditation, providing a clear path that is responsive to the specific needs of each student.

In the early essence traditions of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, like the Great Seal of Mahamudra and the Great Perfection of Dzogschen meditation traditions, students were literally sung into awakening by their teachers using pithy poem-songs called dohas. The Tibetan word, ngo sprod pa means “to point out” or “to introduce.” The teacher offers detailed explanations of typical meditation experiences, way to practice, and common problems that arise at each stage of meditation practice.

Students describe the meditation experience in detail while the teacher carefully monitors the student’s meditation progress.

When the student has developed the practice so as to make the mind ‘fit,’ the teacher points out the real nature of the mind and the protected practices that enable the student to awaken to the mind’s real nature.

John's teaching of the Pointing Out Way combines a strong grounding in the Western scientific study of the contemplative experience, integrated with the ancient Indian and Tibetan spiritual traditions and the wisdom of their direct transmission lineages. This provides Westerners of all levels with simple, profound and clear access to the deepest spiritual traditions.

Boulder's dramatic landscape is on full display with sunny days and stunning views of the Flatirons. This setting will engage all of the senses, allowing Nature to soften the spirit and shift your consciousness.

This retreat is graciously hosted by two members of our sangha in their expansive home on Plateau Road in Longmont, CO (less than 10 minutes to North Boulder). You will spend your days in this comfortable retreat setting, surrounded by the calming beauty of the grounds.

The world needs you to awaken...

Now more than ever, the world needs us to wake up and recognize the precious opportunity in this lifetime to elevate human consciousness.  The teachings of the Buddha reveal a path to escaping the noise and suffering of attachments. The Pointing Out Way is grounded in the Western scientific study of the contemplative experience, integrated with the ancient Indian and Tibetan spiritual traditions. This week is the perfect opportunity to experience the expansion of the heart and exploration of the mind in a fully supported setting.
